It is understood that two years after turning down the chance to sign for Arsenal, Belgium midfielder Dennis Praet is considering a move to the North London side according to the Daily Express as Gunners’ boss Mikel Arteta looks to boost his options.
Having put pen to paper with the Foxes in 2019, following an £18 million move from Serie A outfit Sampdoria, Praet has seen his chances limited at the King Power Stadium over the last season, despite being named in the Belgium squad for Euro 2020.
The 27-year-old, who was courted by Arsenal two years ago, could now be on the move again, with the East Midlands club understood to be close to the signing of Boubakary Soumare, which would see the Belgian’s chances limited further.
Arteta looking for reinforcements
With Granit Xhaka believed to be joining Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma this summer, Matteo Guendouzi on the verge of signing for Marseille, plus Dani Ceballos and Martin Odergaard, having returned to Real Madrid after loan stints, it is no secret Arsenal are lightweight in the middle of the park.
However, to land Praet, who has just two Premier League goals and assists apiece in 42 appearances, it is thought that Arsenal will have to bid close to the £18 million that the Foxes paid for him two summers ago.
While he may not be a signing that pulls up any trees, Arteta does players who can do a job and Praet offers top-flight experience playing for a side that has finished fifth for the last two seasons under the guidance of Brendan Rodgers.
Further names on Gunners’ Radar
It is understood that Praet is one of a handful of names – if not the safest, that the Finsbury Park club is being linked with this summer. With Euro 2020 in full flow, a host of players are believed to have captured the attention of sporting director and former player, Edu – a midfielder himself.
Last summer, Brighton & Hove Albion centre back Ben White was the subject of a transfer tussle involving Leeds United where he had spent a season on loan previously before the Seagulls were able to convince him to stay put.
Arsenal though are set to test their resolve again this summer, with a £50 million bid thought to be lined up for the player who is part of Gareth Southgate’s England squad. In addition, tabs are being kept on Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana who could come in and challenge Bernd Leno for the number one jersey.
Swedish hotshot Alexander Isak is being watched closely, after some dazzling displays in La Liga last season for Real Sociedad, where he netted 17 goals in 34 appearances, while he has also impressed at Euro 2020.
Meanwhile, talented fledglings, Eduardo Camavinga and Houssem Aouar who play in Ligue 1 for Rennes and Lyon respectively are also believed to be of interest to Arsenal as Arteta looks to rebuild a squad that is in dire need of a facelift.
