Barca eye sensational Salah swoop after fresh cash injection

La Liga giants Barcelona, who hit the headlines for all of the wrong reasons last summer, may be about to make up to their fans in dramatic fashion this time around, after being linked with a move for Liverpool star Mohamed Salah.

Due to severe financial difficulties caused by the global pandemic, Barcelona were forced to part with a number of players last summer, including club messiah Lionel Messi on a free transfer, while employing thrifty measures when it came to recruitment.

However, news of a long-term lucrative partnership deal with Spotify has seen the club gain access to a considerable amount of investment over the next few years, which could be leveraged into immediate transfer funds.

Salah a realistic possibility?

Essentially, it would all come down to what the player wants and what more he thinks that he can achieve with Liverpool – especially if they win an unprecedented quadruple this season.

With Salah having just over 12 months left on his current contract, this could mean that Barcelona are able to get him for a more favourable price and if Liverpool cannot convince him to sign a new contract, then they could well cash in on their star player.

The Egyptian forward will turn 30 this summer and is fast approaching the peak of his powers, so it is going to depend on how long manager Jurgen Klopp believes he can continue at his current trajectory, with many players usually losing their pace throughout their early thirties.

While they may not have a ready-made replacement, the signing of Luis Diaz from Porto in January will help to cushion any blow of Salah leaving, with the Colombian undoubtedly likely to become a world-class player – especially under Klopp.

Should Liverpool sell?

Should Barcelona test Liverpool’s resolve with an offer that is in the region of £100 million this summer, the Reds may well decide that it is good business to accept this for a player who is entering the twilight years of his career.

One of the main concerns will be replacing Salah’s goal output, though there are a number of quality options available for the right money, so identifying someone who can come in and replace him may not be too hard – as proven by the signing of Diaz.
