Despite the Catalan club being in dire financial difficulties that saw them being unable to renew Lionel Messi’s contract this summer and agree to wage reductions with a number of players, it is understood that Barcelona are going to go ‘all out’ next summer in the transfer window.
Everything hinges though on how Barcelona perform on the pitch, with Champions League qualification being the bare minimum, though it is understood that they have already made contact with some targets.
RB Leipzig star, Dani Olmo is thought to be high on their list and the Spain international could well be an astute signing. At 23, the player who operates on the wing or as an attacking midfielder certainly fits the bill, in terms of how Barcelona’s play has evolved over the last decade.
Interestingly, Olmo came through the fabled La Masia youth academy at the club, before moving to Dinamo Zagreb in 2015, before his exploits earned him a move to the Red Bull-owned outfit. He has been integral to the way the German side have played over the last few seasons and a move back to Barcelona could be a shrewd move for the Spanish giants if the price is right.
Haaland and Pogba a stretch too far?
One of the most sought-after players next summer is understood to be Borussia Dortmund hitman Erling Braut Haaland. While his value exceeds £100 million, he has a release clause of £65 million that kicks in next summer, which is reportedly going to prompt interest from some of the biggest clubs in Europe.
While Bayern Munich and Manchester United are thought to have registered an interest in the prolific striker, it is understood that Manchester City could also swoop, while Real Madrid are also in the running, with Barcelona’s Spanish rivals apparently being the player’s first choice destination.
Much will ultimately depend on where the player chooses and with Barcelona having slipped down the global pecking order, the club will need to really launch a major charm offensive if they are going to be successful in their pursuit of the player.
Also understood to be on their ambitious list is Man Utd midfielder Paul Pogba, whose future has been up in the air for the last couple of years. After the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo at Old Trafford, the French star may be appeased, however, Real Madrid have long courted the player which could potentially see Barcelona lose out to their fierce rivals for two of their targets.
