Brighton defender Lamptey linked with Spurs

A club whose activity will be viewed with interest in January – Tottenham are being tipped to tweak their squad slightly, with new boss Antonio Conte, no doubt, having identified what he wants to do in the short to medium term.

One area where he seems keen to strengthen at is right-back and as a result, links persist to Brighton sensation Tariq Lamptey, who director of football, Fabio Paratici is understood to be negotiating a deal over, with the south coast club standing firm over their valuation.

The 21-year-old has excelled over the last couple of seasons for the Seagulls and is understood to be attracting interest from a number of clubs, including Spurs’ fierce rivals Arsenal.

Do Spurs need a right-back?

Although Lamptey might have a lot of talent and a bright future, there is an argument that he could be more of a luxury for Spurs, who already have the versatile Matt Doherty and Sergio Reguillon to choose from, which means at least one of these would need to be moved on.

It would also be very unlike chairman Daniel Levy to spend unnecessarily and, arguably, there are more important areas of the squad to improve.

Paratici is also reportedly in talks with Wolves over last summer’s target Adama Traore, whose value is understood to have dropped, due to this club wanting funds to strengthen themselves.

Quoted in excess of £40 million in the last transfer window, it is believed that the attacker is available for around half that price, which could convince Levy to make a move. It remains to be seen though, whether Traore fits into Conte’s plans.

The Italian is renowned for building teams on a solid, defensive base and also asks a lot from his players in terms of work rate and Traore may be someone who just simply does not fit the bill.
