Crystal Palace eye swoop for Roma star Borja Mayoral

Last Updated on by James King

It is being reported that Crystal Palace may pursue a January move for attacker Borja Mayoral, who is currently plying his trade for Roma in the Serie A, on a two-season loan from Real Madrid.

Under boss Jose Mourinho, the Spaniard’s chances have been limited this season, however, he was the club’s top-scorer last term with 17 goals.

And, while it seems that the former Chelsea, Real Madrid and Inter Milan manager does not appear to be keen on him, he appears to be attracting interest from Palace boss Patrick Vieira.

Eagles eye more firepower

Despite Palace appearing to be comfortable in mid-table currently, they could do with more of an attacking threat if they plan to push on and challenge for a European place and there could well be value in moving for Mayoral, previously of Real Madrid.

It is understood, that a bid of £13 million could be enough to secure the signing of Mayoral, who could see his loan cut short by Los Blancos if all parties can reach an agreement, with talks already well underway.

Real Madrid are likely to want to cash in on as many players as they can for their own recruitment plans, with the club still feeling the effects of the global pandemic, though not as heavily as rivals Barcelona.

Mayoral could fit the bill for Palace, especially for the price – if he can rediscover his form from last season, it would certainly represent a great piece of business.

Although the Eagles have star player Wilfried Zaha, they could do with more of a natural striker with their talisman preferring to operate from the flank, with veteran Christian Benteke relied on a lot so far this term.

Mayoral would also suit the Eagles style of play, which has become more fluid under Vieira and could be the right person to convert the multiple chances that they create.
