Everton’s Digne in talks with Inter Milan over January move

Last Updated on by James King

It is understood that Serie A champions Inter Milan are in talks with Lucas Digne over a move to Italy, however, his club Everton are playing handball over his fee.

Digne is keen to secure a move away from the Toffees with there being tension between him and boss Rafa Benitez and Inter have made their intentions clear.

A left-back has been made a top priority by the Nerazzurri in January and Digne’s situation at Goodison Park seems to be untenable having fallen out of favour. The 28-year-old still has made 127 appearances for the Merseyside club, since his arrival in 2018, scoring six times, though he carved out a reputation for creating goals, after contributing 20 assists.

Serie A return for the Frenchman?

Digne spent a season on loan in Italy with Roma while at PSG, where he started his career so he is no stranger to Serie A – joining the reigning champions could also be enticing. The stumbling block is in the fee negotiation between the two clubs and the player’s representatives are reportedly locked in discussions.

A return to Serie A could be a wise move for Digne who will be keen to get his career back on track while the opportunity to win silverware could be too good to turn down. However, the longer that Everton dig their heels in could convince Inter to look elsewhere.

Meanwhile, it is understood that Chelsea are believed to be exploring a potential move for the player, with boss Thomas Tuchel keen to add more depth at left-back. With Digne’s attacking ability, he could be the perfect replacement for current option Marcos Alonso in addition to providing competition to Ben Chilwell who is still relatively inexperienced at the highest level.

There is no doubting Digne’s ability, which makes his situation at Everton all the more confusing – despite this, they will want to make sure that they can adequately cash in on the player.
