Spurs and West Ham to battle for Traore

Last Updated on by James King

After being subject to much transfer speculation in the summer window, it seems that Wolves winger Adama Traore is back in the spotlight once again and is reportedly being linked with a move to either Tottenham or West Ham United this January.

It is understood that Wolves boss, Bruno Lage, who took over from the departed Nuno Espirito Santo in the summer is keen to sign three new players and Wolves could be ready to sell the Spaniard in order to fund these.

Spurs saw two bids in excess of £30 million for the player rejected in the summer, even though much of the interest in the 25-year-old would have come courtesy of old boss Santo and it is not understood to what extent his replacement, Antonio Conte wants him.

Glimmer of hope for West Ham?

It is no secret that the Hammers are light upfront; despite steering themselves to a top-five position in the Premier League so far this season, having often occupied a Champions League place.

However, with just Michail Antonio as their main forward and Jarrod Bowen plus Said Benrahma as wingers, another attacking option could help to ease the burden on manager David Moyes.

Such is Wolves’ financial situation, that they are understood to be willing to accept a £20 million bid in this window – £20 million less than what they were asking in the summer.

Lage reportedly wants a centre back, winger and striker in January, however, a lack of funds could expedite the sale of Traore who the club were understood to be in contract talks with that would have made him their highest-paid player on £120,000/week, though wrangling over a release clause stalled negotiations.

Where would he fit?

The main problem for Traore has been his lack of end product, whether this be goals, assists or accurate crosses, however, there is no doubting his potential. Blessed with natural, explosive speed and power, his low centre of gravity can make him a full-back’s nightmare.

While Spurs might be looking for attacking reinforcements, it is more likely that Conte would opt for someone who is more consistent, which could him an ideal signing for West Ham.

The Hammers are desperate to add more strength in depth as they look to maintain their good season and Traore could be a useful addition to their ranks.
