Sterling subject of AC Milan interest ahead of takeover

Last Updated on by James King

Sensational reports from Italy indicate that Italian giants AC Milan are plotting a summer swoop for Manchester City star Raheem Sterling should their anticipated takeover be confirmed in the next few weeks.

Understood to be in negotiations with Bahrain-based conglomerate, Investcorp, which has global assets worth over £32 billion, could well see their takeover confirmed soon in what will lead to AC Milan becoming the latest superpower in world football.

Sterling is said to head an ambitious list of top players that can help to transform the Rossoneri overnight into likely Serie A winners on a regular basis, while also potentially seeing Champions League glory days brought back to the club.

Sterling subject of AC Milan interest ahead of takeover

Sterling to be tempted by switch?

With the player about to enter the final year of his contract, this report represents an interesting possibility and it will depend on a number of factors. If he feels that he has achieved all he can at City, a change of scenery and the opportunity to play in Italy at another ambitious club may be tempting.

However, it could also depend on whether Pep Guardiola feels that he can get more out of the player or if there is a better replacement out there for him. He has at times been inconsistent this season and the arrival of Jack Grealish last summer cast doubt on how much he may feature, with a number of players able to play in his position.

If City win both the Premier League and Champions League this season, a move to Italy might become even more tempting, where he can take part in helping to restore AC Milan to former glory, while experiencing another culture.

One on an ambitious list of targets

Should the takeover go through as expected, AC Milan have drawn up a list of top players that they are looking to target in the summer.

In addition to Sterling, Liverpool’s Divock Origi, Real Madrid duo, Marco Asensio and Isco, Ajax frontman Sebastien Haller and RB Leipzig’s French talent, Christian NKunku have also been identified.

Without a doubt, Sterling is the most intriguing option and the next few weeks of the season will play a key role in determining the player’s future.
