Tarkowski tipped to join Leicester City in January

Last Updated on by James King

Leicester City are understood to be tracking Burnley centre back James Tarkowski in the winter window, as they look to add to their ranks in January.

It has been somewhat of an indifferent season so far for the Foxes who sit in mid-table, though manager Brendan Rodgers will have designs on a European place. January perhaps, could not come at a better time for Leicester who will have the opportunity to strengthen their squad to push on in the latter half of the season.

This has led the club to be linked with Burnley defender James Tarkowski in January, who at 29, is running out of time to move on to another club for a fresh challenge.

Long time coming for Tarkowski?

For a number of years, the player has been linked with a move away from Turf Moor and is an integral part of the squad that Burnley boss Sean Dyche has put together. When Harry Maguire moved to Manchester United, Tarkowski was reportedly being lined up to replace him, though a fee could not be agreed between the two parties.

The player’s loyalty to Burnley over the years has been admirable and he has played a key role in helping the club to survive in the Premier League over the years, though now could be an opportunity for him to play at a higher level, especially in Europe.

Adding a player of Tarkowski’s calibre, despite his age, could be a good move from Rodgers, who likes defenders who are comfortable on the ball and the Clarets’ defender would definitely fit the bill, especially with the player out of contract in the summer.

Other options for Leicester?

It appears to be at the back where the East Midlands side are looking for options in January and as a result, both Lucas Digne (Everton) and Nat Phillips (Liverpool) are understood to have been earmarked as other options.

Phillips is surplus to requirements at Liverpool with the Reds, believed to be open to accepting £15 million for the player, while Digne is understood to be being tracked by Chelsea and Inter Milan.
